Mrs Bandaranaike led the Ceylonese delegation to the 13th Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ Conference convened by British Prime Minister Sir Alec Douglas-Home in London. Reaffirming its opposition to apartheid, the Conference which brought together Prime Ministers Menzies of Australia, Pearson of Canada and President Nkrumah of Ghana among others, expressed concern over the situation in Cyprus and conveyed sympathy for Malaysia. The creation of a Commonwealth Secretariat was also proposed.
